What's the interview process like? Just got off the phone with a recruiter, seems like culture is a huge part of the interview and work-life. How does it compare to tech? How about compensation? How should I prepare for the interview? How much focus does the company put on technology and being innovative?
You have to be a huge league player to get through behavioral. That’s was my first and only round. First question was what I thought of a certain characters kit. I was going for an operational role so your experience may vary. I’m a filthy casual so obviously got rejected right off the bat.
I can appreciate this kind of mentality though. A clear shared interest and investment in the product.
True. Not a bad thing in moderation. On the other hand some friends who work there mentioned that their coworkers can be a bit “too into the game.” Whatever that means.
If you are not a crazy league player don't even bother interviewing!
Algos only
Culture IS a huge part of the company. All the tech qualifications an individual might have, will not get them through the door, unless they are a core gamer. Every decision (from finance, to QA, to product, to engineering) is based around the player experience, and it's critical for you personally, to have player empathy, in making the choice on what to do. Compensation is good, esp. at the more senior levels. (I came from FAANG) To technology and being innovative -- We built our own internet backbone to minimize hops, thereby guaranteeing low & consistent ping for our NA players. Search for "Riot Direct" online. The size of our global player base demands some innovation in scaling. Similar to lots of tech companies, as you'd expect. We do also leverage open source quite a bit, to stay lean where we can.
How about the technical part?
From what I’ve heard, it’s one of the few game companies that doesn’t work its employees like crazy and pay them shit
Like Amazon?
Amazon employees are paid shit? And I’d like to work more than my current 35 hour week.
