Comparing Rivian (or Tesla) with traditional automakers like Ford or GM is just like comparing Amazon with Walmart and other traditional retailers decades ago where everyone was just comparing the similarities (such as they all sell products) but ignoring the differences (such as customer service and delivery network). Amazon was not only building a business against the retailers but also against traditional delivery services. Similarly, both, Rivian and Tesla are not only building vehicles but also the charging infrastructure which can be compared with chevron and exxon.

Look at Tesla stock timeline and it should tell. Ie. when model 3 came out. New giga factor online. Etc
Looks like Tesla market cap was around $65B when Model 3 came out in July 2017. So do you not feel that when Rivian launches its vehicles later this year, it should warrant at least $50B looking at how much Tesla has grown since?

Production and delivery at scale is hard. They already announced this week that R1T is going to be delayed. I believe they will go higher in valuation at the time of IPO however soon they will come down unless investors sees scaling in the production and delivery of vehicles.
