(Posting on the behalf of friend who is currently working at Dell, total YOE ~ 2.5) Rivian Role: Technical PM Compensation: 125K Base, RSUs - 120K (over 4 years), No sign-on bonus Applied Materials Role: Technical PM-2 Compensation: 135K Base, Total RSUs- 30K over 2 yrs, joining bonus- 20K Therefore, could you please advise, from a future perspective, which offer would be better: Stock at Rivian with no bonus or one level higher role at Applied with a sign-on but less stocks. Also, if any pros or cons of working at both of these companies. Both roles are equally interesting with good teams. Thank you in advance for your guidance. #Offer #Evaluation #EV #Semiconductor #Hardware #ConsumerElectronics #interview #semiconductor #hardware #Electricvehicle #lamresearch #Rivian #AppliedMaterials #lamresearchhiring #WFE #WFH
Poll. Also applied is the right answer here
Due to positioning for the next few years or based on the pay info provided above? or due to some other reasons, like work culture ? Thanks for your feedback.
Obviously biased to Applied, but culture is great. WLB will be significantly better. Applied is a large player in a very successful semiconductor industry. Rivian is a newly IPO’d EV company which is a relatively new market. Rivian is essentially a subsidiary of Amazon and the culture that comes with that.
But aren't WFE companies terrible?
Thanks for your feedback. What makes you feel that way?
WFE companies typically don't have a great work culture. This might not be true if you hiring manager is really good. WLB is not great. Micromanagement. Pay also is not that great compared to other tech Companies. If you are in it for 2-3 yrs it is a good learning experience though.
Run away from Applied. Thank me later.
What makes you feel that way ?
Wlb has sucked lately. Maybe org dependent. Compensation low per industry standards.
Wafer fab equipment vs. electric car. I think it is a kinda easy choice. What role in AMAT?
You mean go with applied ?
You mean go with AMAT ? Its Technical PM role
Why give up 100k RSU and go to amat…. Did he know math?
Amat pay should also include 10% bonus. Also odd to see 2-year vesting schedule from Amat. Rivian stock may explode or go down the drain. In terms of mortgage size lenders typically consider your base+bonus and give no credit to RSU. So in a sense Amat offer looks better. Honestly I don't think the small delta should be a deciding factor. Instead I would think which one better serves my career goals in the long run. Different industries afterall. I think Amat programs more complex and challenging than those of Rivian.
How much do AMAT pay for pm roles in Bayarea?
Join applied! Its a no brainer.
