Hello All, I have a dilemma. I have an offer from another supplier where the TC is 23% higher. However with recent departures from Aptiv I am now getting more visibility with the management. I love what I do and have established a reputation at Aptiv. I wanna stay because I see a potential promo but there’s nothing on the immediate horizon due to COVID impact to the company. Do I talk to my manager to bump my pay? If so how do I do it? Or should I just GTFO and start fresh in the new place? Folks at @Aptiv do you know what the typical bump from level 6 to level 7 at Aptiv is? Another point is, I am in the GC queue at Aptiv now and might be eligible for the filing before end of year. The new place has not promised a GC filing timeline. NOTE: I am still on my first H1B session so have little over 3 years to get an i140. #tech #jobchange #promotion
Also those who voted to ask for a Promo, should I state I have a much higher offer for the same role at a different company? Or just ask for a promo and see what they say? Albeit the new offer is only slightly above market rate. I am currently underpaid. I know several new grads in my org that make very close to what I do.
When you say you are in the queue, is this internal queue? Or have you filled already?
There’s an internal queue. It’s on a first come first serve basis. So it depends when your manager nominated you. I believe it is a company wide queue.
I would not care and leave then, some companies don't have internal queues, just some wait period of 3-6 months to gauge your performance
I am not sure how the GC process at the new org works but I know it’s typically a 1 year wait at most companies. The recruiter won’t give more details and said details would be provided at orientation.
FWIW GC gives you complete freedom in your life. I'd just stick it out, get that, and then make moves.
I agree. Might have a chat with my manager or skip to see if there’s any growth in the plans for me. I’m really getting burned out doing work for other roles in addition to mine but no real recognition. I need to be better at quantifying what I do and letting it known to the higher ups soon after its done. Any tips on how to do that? My manager used to have regular 1:1s but hasn’t since quite sometime.
How do I approach my manager about this? Have never been in a situation where everything but the TC is pretty similar. My past moves were motivated by visa needs or hatred for the organization. I honestly love working at Aptiv and have really great colleagues. Any tips on what to talk to my manager?
Those who voted for staying put, I have 3+ years remaining on my H1B so I do have time. Should have mentioned that in the original post. Do you guys think a 20% bump is not enough to wait another year for GC?
