Hello, wise people of Blind. I am looking to get some honest resume feedback. I am aiming for a position at a FAANG or similar (west coast USA) company at the SDEII level. A little about me, I transitioned out of hardware/controls engineering to join my friends start-up as a technical co-founder. Long story short, we never found product-market fit and after exhausting all our leads we decided to call it quits. I took a newly developed passion for software development into a data science/engineering role, but I didn't really find the company / product/ role exciting or even sustainable. New ownership also made my role unsafe, and I was not getting enough development experience as I liked. I used a referral to get into a digital ad agency as somewhat of a full-stack developer (that's what i was promised but its more 70% FE vs 30%BE). The role was interesting at first, and I worked hard to learn the new tech stack/business, however I am simply not challenged enough. I know that i'm capable of solving bigger problems and for a better TC. Since June i've started Leetcode/studying for FAANG like interviews. I have 143 LC under my belt (66E/75M/2H). My goal is to get to 75E/85M/10H within a month (stepped up the pace recently) while simultaneously bringing my resume/system design skills up to par. TC: 65K CAD sucks i know..I took risks when i was young but yolo lol, and i'm motivated to get into a fulfilling role with decent TC #swe #faang #sde #resume #amazon #microsoft #msft #twitter #facebook #tech
Nobody cares about frameworks (vue, .net, etc). Just list them under a “skills” section. If anything, .NET isn’t something you want to highlight since it is very uncommon at top tier tech companies (besides Microsoft if you consider that top tier. Focus on projects, your role, and results delivered (e.g. “I lead project blah which automated a process that took 2 full time employees previously” or whatever)
Also remove the projects section. Nobody cares about your school project / hackathon. That’s fine to fill space if you are new grad with no experience. You have 3 job roles on there. Also feel free to embellish your startup section if it was vaguely successful (tailor it to whatever roll you are applying for as long as you don’t mind... ahem... improvising if you get questions asked
Summaries are dumb, just delete that section. Save it for the cover letter / responding to recruiter email
It looks like a beginner’s resume, so I think it’s good and ready for sde I. You can increase the value of it by ditching some of the keywords there and explaining the complexity of what you worked on better and more succinctly. It’s fine to embellish by not giving too many details, any reasonable interviewer will know that most projects require some collaborative effort.
Way too much fluff & keyword stuffing List companies, titles and 2-3 bullet points describing major projects & outcomes. Less is more You'll have plenty of time to talk about specifics during interviews
- Your template isn’t decent. But you want your dates to be highlighted, not your locations. - No one will read your summary. Remove or shorten to max 2 lines. - Inline bolding makes no sense. Remove those (see https://thetechresume.com/samples/common-mistakes.html) - Good that you have some numbers, try to add more. Also I recommend https://thetechresume.com/ . Most advice is from after I read it. I’ve gotten callbacks from FB and Amazon and a few startups after the changes I made following the advice - before I barely saw any responses. Now leetcoding it up for the phone screens...
Damn looks like shuttershock
