Recent Grad Software Engineer looking for a better paying role. 6 months internship, and about 2 months of professional experience. #google #facebook #amazon #apple #microsoft
Remove soft skills and spoken languages ... skills can all be jus one line ... Then fill the resume with more tech content ... Yes and use normal font .. times roman i guess
Agreed. Font change to times new Roman. Have to make it easy on the eye + when it passes an ATS system I believe font is important. Lastly don’t know your company’s exp. so if it’s just solid, good etc. Worth writing a short cover letter why you want that role and what you bring
TC or GTFO Don’t say you’re being trained. Being trained for 2 months without producing anything is a red flag.
There is an initial compulsory 2.5 month training period that new grads have to go through. Can I rephrase it in a better way?
You can write what you are being trained on. There must be some tools or technologies.
Is it really that common to have these boring resumes? When I was applying, mostly to finance, 7 months ago I used two types of resumes: one similar to the above and one fancier two color resume having two blocks of text on the left and right side of the page. I applied to 80 positions using mostly boring resume but still got interviews only from the application with fancier format of the resume.
Which industry? My resume follows the exact same style as OP and it's been wildly successful for industrial research labs.
Finance
Try and embed more technical language in all your sentences. I.e. “Developed a face and feature detection application using deep learning” - what languages did you use to develop it? What kind of application/what stack did you use? What deep learning library did you use? It could be changed to something like “Used Python and Django to develop a face and feature detection web app, utilising deep learning models from Tensorflow”
This is really helpful, thank you!
One thing that raises a flag for me when I review such resumes is how you managed to accomplish so much during a 6 month internship. When you say “Developed” or “Built” it makes it sound like you did all of that alone. Which does not seem right as it takes a lot of time to actually build these applications. I would suggest that you reword those parts and be more specific on what you did.
Seem to be just 2 projects. The rest are filler. I even did 4 projects during my 3-month internship. Happened to be in my area of expertise (PhD). But I agree that listing all of those together (projects + skills) doesn't look right.
Some stuff was solo work, but most was team work. Any suggestions on how I might reword it? My thinking here was that writing about the project + writing about my work would make it too wordy probably, and just writing about my work with project background might not make sense to person reading it Could you please share your thoughts on this?
Latex resume makes me 🙄
Doing it with MS Word becomes a headache while managing the spacing and formatting
You do you :-)
that font sucks
That font is OK. Used by academics a lot.
