Hi, got an offer for Robinhood internship, am really excited because I'm really interested in fintech. Only reservation I have is I'm worried about the given economic conditions that they might cancel internship program in the future, but the recruiter says they have never cancelled intern offers and did layoffs very early in the year. Thoughts on the security of the internship program? #robinhood #internship
Take it
Take it and have a contingency plan
By contingency plan do you mean accepting another offer and reneging closer to start date? Lowkey don’t wanna burn bridges
You could do that, or have other plans in general. Research, projects, travel, etc
Take it and keep applying elsewhere too
Take it. Even when we were leading up to our second RIF, we didn't rescind intern offers.
Would u personally reccomend accepting multiple offers or nah
Take it. We are a mess but it will still look good on your resume. I don’t see intern offers going away.
Why do you think Robinhood there will be another RIF ?
Admittedly I'm just a college student, am not able to fully see how Robinhood is doing economically, but given the economic conditions, crypto doing poorly, Robinhood cutting their workforce earlier in the year, we never know how bad it'd get in 6 months and I just really don't want to be faced in a situation without any internship considering I could have chosen another company. My only question now is if I should sign a backup offer
I have a few thoughts, one is there is definitely uncertainty, but the other is that crypto doing poorly isn’t necessarily bad for RH. The company’s options position is one of its largest money makers, and as a crypto company, RH’s market position is not as good. If the crypto market pulls back, it’s possible that in the long run, this is good for RH. Use your best judgement about signing back up offers, because it’s your life here.
Take it imo, I was at Robinhood. My team was full of incredibly talented individuals who could in fact go to any other tech company and succeed. Fair warning though, ymmv depending on team, but I also do believe Robinhood looks great on the resume.
Why would Robinhood look desirable on a resume?
I left the company already in October and got 4 interviews, 4 offers. I think that a lot of employers knew that Robinhood was one of the hottest tech companies of 2021, and it was pretty hard to get in then. I’m assuming here that that reputation would carry over.
To add to what others have said, Robinhood had layoffs and perhaps we were early, but the rest of the industry and smaller fintechs are now having them. The whole fintech and tech sectors are unstable right now so no matter where you go, there will be some risk. So your best bet is to be flexible but try to not burn bridges that can come back and bite you.
thanks!
