Interviewed for Staff. Currently at Google, at L5. I’ve been here almost 2 years and stock will drop drastically due to 33% front loading, so considering moving. 550 will drop to around 400-450. Extremely bored at Google as well. Overworked while being under-stimulated and not many interesting things to work on. Will probably have more offers coming in.
As someone who's worked at Robinhood and still has a bunch of friends there don't make this change. Robinhood is a dumpster fire at this point. Every team across the company is overworked with zero wlb. Pip is now the norm as a way to manage people out. There's also very little upside to the business. Stock price is in the crapper with little upside. You managed Google and staff interview at Robinhood my suggestion is to keep looking. You'll find a better offer elsewhere
That’s wrong I work here: 1) WLB is team dependent. I have pretty good WLB. Also considering you are L6, you can bring your voice if WLB in your team gets bad. My manager constantly makes sure we are not burned out. 2) regarding upside : company is doing all it can to improve in many dimensions. Now I don’t want to say everything is rosy but people are working on right things.
It doesn't matter if managers or staff eng WANTS a good wlb. If your service is crapping out on a nightly basis or you need to launch stuff with unrealistic timelines their wants have nothing to do with that. I do agree certain things are team dependent but I find it hard to think of many teams with good wlb
It’s good time. As stock can go only up.. 😀 Keep in mind ; 1) Stock is now only given for 1 year. No 4 year grants. 2) company announced RTO. Overall I like being here less RH has some problem but who doesn’t in this market.
“Stock can only go up” is copium with our dilution.
Regarding the 1-year grants, that worries me as I wonder if they can drop down to granting 50% the next year, drastically reducing TC. It's essentially not guaranteed.

I think it’s pretty solid offer
Imho the equity at Robinhood will continue to grow at a faster rate than google in the next 5-7 years. Given the ZIRP google is already trading on high multiples, robinhood is trading at low.
Robinhood won't even be around in 5-7 years.
wrong. We have 6B cash and no debt. Op : you can look at our Q1 2023 earnings. It’s not great but solid in terms of q/q improvements
It's a shame companies like RH keep hiring after doing multiple rounds of layoffs
There is no direct connection, nothing shameful or weird. Probably a backfill
How was the interview experience? An you summarize the overall process. Thanks
The interviews I'd say were pretty standard, they had me go through a technical screen on codesignal which was primarily coding and talking shop. Onsite was 2 system designs, 2 behaviorals, 1 practical coding, 1 algorithmic coding ~LC medium. The 2 separate behaviorals were with eng director and eng manager where one drilled into my background/history and career progression like a storyline, and the other one asked lots of hypothetical and scenario questions, assumingly for culture fit.

That’s a solid l6 rh offer. Unsure where you get the 50k bonus. Bonus target at l6 is 15% of base.
I think you could get a 100k sign on tho. Try for more there
Also last year the bonus was funded at 50% and we didn’t know until pretty much payment time, so don’t count on that 50k. That said, you should ask for a higher sign-on. Make sure you’re ok with RTO at least 4 days a week.
Thanks for the higher sign-on tip. Do you think I'll need competing offers for this? I'm totally ok with RTO, I already am going back into the office 3-5 days a week. How's the perks in-office though? Google has been fading slowly, even though they're starting to push more RTO. My org is starting to "enforce" 3x a week.
Competing offers never hurt, but you can also play the “I’m happy at Google” card. I’ve only been to the office a couple times (and hate the idea of RTO), so not the best person to give you advice here. From what I’ve seen/heard, it’s a mix of lack of conference rooms, crowded lunch areas and disappointing snacks. Also few lunch options compared to Apple/FB and probably Google
Move to rh if you wana worry about layoffs every quarter
Not everyday?
At least not getting bored
