EY Senior Tech Consultant role San Antonio, TX (No relocation needed) Base: 120k - 130k ( Got approval mail from recruiter, will be talking later this week) Walmart SDE 3 Bentonville, AR ( Need to relocate) Base - 120k Relocation - 6.5k Bonus - 10k Stocks - 12.5k Walmart wants me to relocate for the position, really excited to work for Walmart given it's a java based tech stack and would like to learn and grow in that, have around 1 year exp in similar tech stack but new to most of the tools. EY is more towards fintech, probably need to travel to client location, if needed. Given the position, will definitely aim to stay 2 - 3 years before making a switch. Please let me know your recommendations/suggestions/insights regarding both the positions. #tech #walmart #ey #sde
Make it a poll
these are two separate career paths, so it depends on what your long term goals are
My long term goals for the next 3-4 years is to grow in a tech stack, become a SME on a technical level on some aspect of system design, have the ability to actually visualize or easily approach a system design from scratch or be comfortable to work in products that might have similar/relatable tech stack or simply put become a decent problem solver.
EY San Antonio location is SDC ( development centre), not actual tech consulting wing. It will have less pay. I would recommend Walmart, get into product and potential refreshers every year.
Personally, I'd take the EY offer. Bear in mind, the income tax in AR will cut into your net income. Plus, the area (NW Arkansas) is a lot more "country." A good job isn't always worth living in a place where your QOL might decline.
I would prefer to stay in Texas but given EY, it might mean visiting client personally 4 week days and I am not a huge fan of travel even though it might be light travel to start with but totally with you on the QOL part.
Supposedly Bentonville is a great town with super lcol. If you don’t have roots where you are, would do that over the EY grinder.
EY but ask for 150 you’re getting pay peanuts 🥜
lol, they took around 2 weeks to return back to for this base range, not sure how that might be possible, given Texas location as well but thank you for the input.
You should check fishbowl, if you want further details. For PwC I was getting 132 in 2020 with two YoE.
I would take Walmart to EY. You would have more tech opportunities to work in a product company than in a consulting firm. I myself is joining Walmart in a week.
yoe?
