Interesting... Maybe I'm the pessimist but I just don't believe this will ever pass. We'll see.
It'll pass this time.
You think Trump will sign it?
Not sure what happens to Bills if a president loses but Trump will sign it if he wins.
Was just about to post OP. Better get my ass to the US before the backlog comes for everyone. Huge changes coming to H1-B via this Bill. I said be careful what you wish for because this a Bill pulls up the ladder for other Indians.
What do Indians care about other Indians. As long as they get their GC this bill is the answer.
😂
oh no
The more people post S386, the more I realize it is not about the immigration policy in US. It’s about how India makes it worse for people to live, and now US is solving problems for India.
How?
Most Indians came here because of the caste based reservation and they felt unfairly treated. India is more than fine having these people move to other countries so they don’t impact the reservation policy and can sway other countries’ power to benefit India. Instead of changing the India’s legalized “positive” discrimination, the upper caste focus on moving to other countries in waves, whom most countries can not accommodate.
I understand Indians’ backlog pain, but why not come up a bill to help Indian without hurting others ?
ROW won’t really feel the pain until around 5 years in. That’s when the backlog starts to affect other countries. My worry is there will be a big rush to apply before this time.
A bill to increase GC numbers would be the best but has no chance of passing in a decade or more. What’s the solution then?
3 year EADs and flexibility around starting businesses and changing employers for backlogged applications. > And the early adjustment language gives people most of the benefits of a green card. Freedom to change employers or start a business. Freedom to travel. In state tuition in most states for the kids. Protection from kids aging out. I’ve long been an opponent of this Bill but these amendments have changed my position to neutral. They need to raise the number of Green Cards but that can be done in the next Congressional session.
With early adjustment, you’d still have to maintain h1, right?
Not a lawyer but I believe so.
Will believe it when I see it happen. I have seen too many times of such posts over the years with no real result.
Senator Cotton is going to block it. There goes any hope.
Australian here. BLOCK s386!
American here - deport all the Australians!
Indian here. What's an Australian?
🤞
