Stocks had a volatile week, but all three major indexes finished up more than 1%. Despite the gains, traders remain concerned about the banking system and whether the Federal Reserve's interest rate raising campaign could be ending soon. Next week's news cycle is set to be dominated by U.S. consumer and housing market data, as well as several noteworthy earnings reports. On Wednesday, banking will take center stage as Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr and Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Chairman Martin Gruenberg head to Capitol Hill for a congressional hearing to discuss the failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank and what steps have been taken to protect the U.S. banking system. This promises to be an important hearing, so keep your eyes on the news for updates. Several notable earnings reports will be released, including BioNTech and Carnival on Monday, Lululemon Athletica, McCormick, Micron Technology, and Walgreens Boots Alliance on Tuesday, and Cintas and Paychex on Wednesday. Intel will also host an investor event. There will also be federal financial regulator testimony before Congress, and consumer and housing market data from the Conference Board, Bureau of Economic Anaylsis, and National Association of Realtors. Economists will be looking for the consumer confidence index for March and the personal income and expenditures report for February, as well as the S&P CoreLogic's Case-Shiller national home price index for January and the National Association of Realtors' pending home sales index for February. These reports, along with the earnings reports, are expected to provide insight into the current state of the economy. The Bureau of Economic Analysis will also release its fourth-quarter gross-domestic product estimate on Thursday, and its February household income and spending report on Friday.
