Incoming SDE I @ Amazon. 1.5 YOE. TC 160. I have a CS background from undergrad but didn't take classes in robotics. Nor was my prev experience or new team at Amazon doing anything robotics related. I know Amazon has a pretty strong team over at drones, and I'd like to change to that team in the future. What can I do in 1~2 years to prepare myself and make myself qualified to transition towards hardware systems?? I was thinking about taking Udacity's self driving course and maybe solving toy projects on raspberry pi. Any suggestions / wisdom?
Get good at C++.
Take a look at ROS.
Source: I have a Robotics MS. "Robotics" can mean a lot of things, not necessarily IoT / embedded programming stuff. A lot of my job is math, algorithms, C++/Python, testing on real hardware. Look up UPenn's Robotics specialization on EdX. Good intro even though it's the tip of the iceberg. And yes, ROS is everywhere in my line of work. Look up the kind of courses in robotics grad programs too. It's very diverse actually, and you can find a lot of material online. I found doing actual grad school pretty useful tbh.
Hereās some wisdom: Secure the bag bro. First you get the money. Then you get the power. Then you get the women. Donāt do things out of order. Just secure the motha f*****g bag.
