SDE2 Contractor at Amazon

Laid off from Amazon a year ago and this contract role is the only offer I have on hand. It requires me to relocate to Seattle and work 5 days onsite. The hourly rate is $55 and I feel this is very low for a SDE2 role. I’m not entirely sure if this is worth it but i need to start earning money. Has anybody ever contracted for Amazon? Do you mind sharing your experience? TC: 🥜 #amazon #contractor #sde2

Is it for Kuiper ?

Don’t know what Kuiper is

Good, keep it that way. Stay the hell away from Kuiper

$55 a hour is extremely low for SDE2. I mean shit, SDE apprentices get paid a little more than that. I’m a L5, and my base is 180k. I also have a 100k in bonus. So I’m getting paid about $134 a hour. If you absolutely need the money and have no other options, then IMO take the contract job. Leetcode and apply to the other positions while cruising the job.

Yes, and contractors are supposed to be paid more at the hourly rate due to not having other benefits such as insurance etc..

Is Amazon directly hiring you as a contractor? Or are you going to be an employee of another company that's going to be taking a huge cut? If it's the latter, I think that company is keeping a huge cut of at least 2/3 of the pay.

Other vendors pay more for less known companies. You can apply for senior software engineer positions which pay ~75$ after their cut

Why is it so low for Seattle?

Amazon mobeele Apr 2

The contracting role gets paid a lot more $$ by amazon. more like $150 per hr. The consultancy that you are working with is taking a cut and treating you like shit 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ by giving $55

Please don’t work for that low! It’s a rip off! Meta pays much better if you want to go contracting route and they even have other better benefits like free food and a lot more (you can save some $$ in this economy) when compared to Amazon.
