SDE being interviewed and offered for Technical Support Engineer role Recruiter said we can go for IJP after an year..not sure how easy it will be after change in profile from SDE to support 2. Cisco Bangalore Layoffs As the salary is big, that too for technical support, i think layoffs can happen..was mentioned on quora about cisco layoffs Even being a developer i have the interview for Cisco because cisco is a giant and stable company to work with, but profile is bothering me. If you like solving customer issues for a particular product then go for it. Support is good in Bangalore and usually isn’t on radar for layoff since Bangalore is a cheap centre for support when compared to other countries. Be aware of the shifts, there are two primary shifts for support in Bangalore with APAC shift being the hardest where you have to login at 6:30 AM, depends on the team you’re joining. Other shift runs from 11 am to 7 pm. Yes IJP there’s opportunities for SDE roles always . What grade did they offer?

Hi.. first of all THANKS a TON for your reply Grade offered is 8 The only concern is one i become a technical support Engineer, i would be given very less preference for dev roles even at other teams in cisco.. My fear is i am not doing justice to my developer experience

Ok 2 things - Even in support role in Cisco, there’s actually tons of opportunities to code and create. You just need to know who to talk to. That way you actually would be considered top performer because you’re going above and beyond just support. Other is that I’ve seen many people move from support to development. It’s not something that happens often but does happen. Worst case you find another development job outside of Cisco and quit :)
