Which offer has better growth prospects in the long run? @Amazon - How much room to negotiate L6 offer? How long does L7 promo typically take? Work life balance in AWS? @Uber - how is culture, attrition and growth opportunities? Risk for layoffs? Location: Seattle Current TC: 350K. YOE: 15+ #engineering #software
Similar situation, I picked Uber. Imo, outlook is good and Amazon offer is normally open ended :)
Uber gives front loaded vesting schedule. Is it 650k for first year and then dip? Or is it 4yr avg?
Just FYI if you have good scope as L66 in Microsoft and interview well, Amazon will offer L7 SDM. I am personally not sure about Uber's growth prospects.
could you clarify your concerns with Uber? should I re-interview with Amazon for L7 or join Microsoft then interview again?
L7 is M2 role, I presume they determined that you qualified for M1 but no harm asking the recruiter. If you have a big team in Microsoft and do well, yes I think many teams in Amazon would be willing to interview you at L7 two years later.
Money is not everything. Join MS, and make the world a better place.
Why not Amazon then?
You are getting FAANG offers from costco, wow
Thanks, what are your thoughts on Uber growth prospects? Layoff risks?
I spoke to an Uber recruiter yesterday and this is the gist “Uber learned a lot from covid experience and we’re hiring cautiously and Uber is not planning any layoffs for now” not sure if I would believe him though lol
Can you please tell me your about interviews? Leetcode type ?
No LC. System Design and Behavioral rounds. Edit: Microsoft did have system design with LC easy coding question though
Thanks . @ noob100 Does Microsoft needs a manager title to consider for interview? Tech lead with building and managing teams and shipped products . Will that work for MS?
Can you please provide breakup of the offers ... Msft can be good with bonus at 66
MS if you want wlb and really good people to work with but at the end of the day I think money will will
thoughts on Uber?
Uber is good but there’s always that looming fear of layoffs. Stock might go up but historically has been going down. You’d mostly end up with a product team where tech breadth is more valued than depth so that’s up to you which one you appreciate more
Despite the pay gap, an L6 manager is no where near in scope, impact and capability of most L66s I have known. Experience at that level easily prepares you for a level above. An L66 manager should always go in as an L7 at least.
None. Start your own company and beat them
Okay Y Combinator
