Currently a SWE, thinking about moving to Sales Engineer/Solutions Architect. What are the benefits and drawbacks of going into that role at a big company vs start-up? I assume big companies pay more, how do start-ups prevent their best people from being poached?
I’m curious why SE/SA vs Product for CSuite path?
Startups can be pretty competitive OTE wise from what I’ve seen. The difference is mostly higher risk higher reward. The benefits would be that with startups you might get more stock that could blow up, and you probably have a lower quota, which combined with a new product will give you the chance to crush your quota, and have a blowout year. With Faang, you get more security, and a better idea of what you’ll make and what the stock offered to you is worth.

What'd you decide?
Curious to know why you want to move from SWE to SE??
I'm still looking into it. Some considerations are 1) I've heard the top SEs make more than the top SWEs, even if the average SE makes less than the average SWE 2) SE is better path to C-suite
