Audible CEO announced last month that there will be no layoffs and they fired all the contractors within hour of the announcement!! Now they started putting people in PIP in Feb. Audible culture started going downhill since the founder Don left last year and its Amazon on steroids now!! Anyone planning to join be aware its not the same Audible it use to be. They are saving on severance and also bad publicity by not announcing mass layoff but using PIP to do it. #amazon #audible #audiblelayoff #tech #layoff
Amazon does all the time but for Audible its new
Well they are a subsidiary of Amazon just like AWS so I’m not surprised. Maybe just too a while for the culture to catch up.
@comeonbby Well a correction here. Audible although a subsidiary is a separate company from Amazon. AWS is an org under Amazon not a separate company. I agree with the point that the culture at Audible is declining ever since Don left because it was Don who brokered the deal with Bezos to keep Audible culture away from Amazon's. With him gone there is no one to safe guard that
PIP can provide a very good payout. Are you sure it saves money vs. a layoff?
Mongodb too
Finally this should have happened long time ago
And why so?
I know people in audible are just coasting and most of them don't even deserve to be paid that much.
Is this a recent development, did audible not have PIP before
What’s pip percentage at audible and it’s same for SWEs too ?
Poor Don probably also got PIPed. He’s just a contractor now. No more saying we maintain our own culture when we’re importing the worst part of Amazon culture. The Chief People Officer is a bloodsucker from Lehman Brothers. I’m surprised it took this long to happen tbh.
Where SDE contractors removed as well? I thought only recruiters where laid off.
From my understanding, it’s only people in HR right now. Recruiters and the recruiting coordinators.
Right now its only recruiters but the irony is they did it on the same day CEO was in All-hands assuring people that there will be no layoffs
Amazon always lays off using PIP. Only difference this year is no backfill for the foreseeable future.
