How much to counter? BCG
What do you think of this offer? Current: Data Engineer. 6 YOE, 130tc. Midwest. Offer: Senior Data Engineer at BCG (Boston Consulting Group) TC: 155 base + 15-30% bonus (so TC: ~178-201k) + 5k sign on. They pay health insurance and contribute 5% to retirement whether you contribute or not. Obviously I'm gonna take the offer, but I'm gonna counter to 162.5k + 7500 sign on. Thoughts and thoughts about BCG in general? #tech

Consulting firms don't give equity except for partners. And they are private companies.

ML generalist here 2 YOE 164 TC. Also Midwest similar bennys. Feel like you could get more than 216 TC with six years unless you’re trash.
Check with your MBB friends on whether anything aside from sign on is even negotiable. MBB firms have standard pay rates for their traditional track which are 100% non negotiable - everyone comes in at the same pay, for better or for worse. I think this applies to BCG Gamma too - which looks like the thing you applied to - especially as the firms try to standardize their tech tracks too. If you try to negotiate on things that are not negotiable for anyone, you'll look like a doofus.
I applied to BCG Platinion, actually. Gamma is ML and Data Science. From what I gathered on the phone, salary is negotiable. We will see! I have a week to make a decision. I think they expect a counter.

Try 165 base + 10K sign on. I don’t know why you’re aiming for 2.5K more for the sign on. Also: congrats on the offer!
