As a backend software engineer with 7 years of experience, I have never had to write SQL queries ever - mostly used NoSQL and occasionally basic SQL client side libraries. I’ve heard a couple of companies have asked that during interviews and I personally don’t know it, and don’t think it’s something one should be tested on. Curious to know experiences of other backend SW engineers on this. TC-240k
SQL is color by numbers compared to NoSQL. Don’t understand what’s not to get
I question candidates about SQL in interviews. I don’t get into the specifics of SQL query syntax but some data is better off in relational tables. I need to know candidates can evaluate the scenario and know which type of data storage is best for the situation. I also need to know the candidate has some idea of how a relational data model works.
