Hey there, Need Help. I'm currently on my OPT and have secured a job at Amazon. However, my joining date is just two days before my initial OPT expires. I need to apply for the STEM OPT now, but since I'm not yet an employee, I'm unsure if the employer will fill out the "I-983" form for me. This situation is concerning as I won't have enough time to file the STEM OPT application after joining Amazon. My current job is ending in a week, and I won't have the option to apply for STEM OPT through my current employer. My only opportunity is with Amazon, but that starts after 45 days of my current employment. I'm concerned about the possibility of them refusing to fill out my I-983 form. I'm seeking advice on how to proceed, as missing out on this opportunity would be unfortunate. Any Leads on this problem would be appreciated. #STEMOPT #I-983 #STEM EXTENSION #Immigration #h1b

Why are you coming here on blind for bootleg advice. Your university has advisors that are experts. Save yourself the confusion and ask them.
Hey Tony, I'm sorry I forgot to mention this. My current job is ending in a week, and I won't have the option to apply for STEM OPT through my current employer. My only opportunity is with Amazon, but that starts after 45 days of my current employment. I'm concerned about the possibility of them refusing to fill out my I-983 form.
uni advisors are not always correct
Talk to your university advisor. They are more helpful and knowledgeable than you can imagine
Hello tiniest, I'm sorry I forgot to mention this. My current job is ending in a week, and I won't have the option to apply for STEM OPT through my current employer. My only opportunity is with Amazon, but that starts after 45 days of my current employment. I'm concerned about the possibility of them refusing to fill out my I-983 form
You need to talk to your University Advisor and Amazon Recuiter/Manager. First talk to your advisor for possible options. Parallely try to get the joining date pre-poned. This is the only right way. The advisors will clearly tell you all possible options if any.
1. How common is it for employers to complete the "I-983" form for future employees? Are there any risks associated with this process for employers? Is there a possibility that completing the "I-983" form could lead to the withdrawal of a job offer from the company? 2. I attempted to inquire about moving up the start date with the employer, but they have established policies in place. Additionally, they mentioned that the onboarding process for a new candidate requires some time. However, I will explain the situation to employer in making changes to the joining date. 3. Can you provide an example of the type of guidance I should seek from the University Advisor?
Talk with the H and extend the date of joining , i did the same few years back.
I can request my employer to postpone my joining, but the other employer needs to fill out my I-983 form. Currently, I don't have another job lined up that could complete the "I-983" for me. In your situation, did Amazon decline your request to fill out the "I-983" form for you, considering your future employment?
They were ready to fill up the form but there are some complications you may get rfe for it. Best option is dont leave the current job till you get your stem approved
As far as i know you don’t need to be an employee to file stem opt. It’s based on a job offer so doesn’t need to be from current employer. Ask Amazon they will help you and your current card will be valid for another 6 months when you file and it’s pending. It’s just a bloody signature on the training plan. Ask them to do it. Make them.
Hey yo202560, I won't be able to apply for STEM OPT through my current employer since my tenure there ends in a week, while my STEM OPT begins in 45 days, my only viable option currently is Amazon. I'm hopeful that they will agree to sign the I-983 form. However, I'm uncertain if they would be willing to take the risk of filing it for a future employee. Convincing them might be challenging. Ideally, if they could advance the joining date, it would be beneficial. If they choose not to complete the I-983, I'm unsure about my next course of action. Any advice on what steps I should take next would be appreciated.

Why would they refuse? Without Amazon filling out your I983, you won't be able to work for them. In fact, you'd probably have to leave the country. Do remember: USCIS should receive your Stem Extension application BEFORE your 1-year OPT expires, or else you may not be able to stay in the US
In a similar situation? What did you end up doing, OP ?
Hey There, Amazon helped me i filling the I-983. Thanks.
Why is it risky? You need to ask your international student office
