I'm SDE2 at Amazon. Considering job change. Curious, how mathworks is doing? WLB? What role/ level/ title should I consider applying for? What Base Salary & TC I can expect? YOE: 6 TC: 230
Agree with @ilkebeer re pay cut. As far as wlb, you can only work from home 3 times a *year*. Work is only moderately interesting if you’re in the right group. Other than that, it’s a stable company and you won’t have to worry about getting laid off.
I chatted with a recruiter once and he asked me about other offers I had. He said I should take those as he probably couldn't break $100k TC. Didn't even start interviewing with them
Amazon to MathWorks? That’s a massive step down. Don’t do it unless you are looking for wlb and you are in oe hell. There are plenty of teams in Boston
I agree!! Only if you want a really good wlb MathWorks is excellent... But the step down from Amazon to MW is not worth it! And what ppl have talked about the compensation is true... Huge pay cut!
I remember when I was interviewing they said explicitly no WFH but unlimited sick days
Bullshit they only give 12 days sick leave in an year and if someone got infected with covid, they had to exhaust their personal/sick leaves. Pathetic. Although the wfh policy has changed to 2-3 days office in a week. Choosing b/w 2 or 3 days depends on your team
Yes they still don't have an official WFH policy but it all depends on your team! Your team has to be flexible!
I will say that Matlab has mastered the calling of BLAS and FFTW in the most efficient way possible.
It's a great place to work but like others said you probably won't get more than 130 or so coming in.
I think you are going through a period in life where you are feeling a little worn out. I suggest you use your vacation time to refresh. Then start your prep to go to MS or Google. With your TC you will greatly regret coming to Mathworks. The only reason to make that sacrifice is if there is a compelling personal reason. Professionally it makes little to no sense.
I have a feeling you'd have to take like an 80k paycut
I believe it's more than 80k, probably around 100k.
What's 20k between friends
