SWE NYC Offers Comp Eval

Have a couple of offers on the table but a bit troubled about what to take. Input appreciated 3 YOE. Current TC 150k **Company A - Startup: Base 138k Bonus 13.8k Relocation 10k Equity ~300k in options over 4 years TC 227k **Company B - Recently IPOd: Base 141k Bonus 14k Relocation 0 Equity 75k after 3 years or 15k in 1 year TC 180k **Company C - Google: Base ? Bonus ? Relocation ? Equity ? I have two offers on the table and got past HC at Google for an L3 position. Google would be a great opportunity and probably have a higher/less risky comp. But the recruiter told me and I’ve also heard matching can take a while in NY and can even end up in a rejection if I never match. Recruiter also said there were slim pickings at the moment in NY and none of the teams that are currently available appeal to me. Not sure if it’s worth risking my other two offers where I would be working on products I really want to work on. Also I’m trying to work ASAP Company B would have better work life balance than Company A but Company A is offering quite a lot in equity, already profitable, and think there’s more potential upside. I’ve been told not to consider the equity at the startup cause it could be worthless but it seems like they’re doing really well and growing fast. Thoughts? Update: lots of people voting Google. can anyone provide reasons why?

What series (A,B,C,etc) is the startup at right now? A later stage startup is more stable vs early growth. Also what are you ultimately more interested in.

Series C and potential to IPO within the next couple of years. Out of the 3, i’m most interested in the startups product and feel like I can be really impactful there

I'd probably go with the startup if you're set on staying in NYC. Base and bonus are similar enough to post ipo company and I'd be willing to give up the small amount of equity they're giving you for the startup lottery tickets

Take the google offer and tell them you’ll move to SF don’t ruin your career over location

Workday VjPE53 OP Jun 5, 2021

Im not sure I would “ruin” my career by not picking them haha. I have family in NY and have been in the bay for 4+ years and just need to change for my own sake. Also i don’t have the offer yet haha

Going to SF is more career ruining than being in NY. NYC is becoming as big of a tech hub as the bay. Also brand names are getting less resume power. Just work with modern technologies and lead projects, that’ll serve you most.

Don’t believe that 300k options. It’s a long haul to cash those out

in this particular case, i don’t think so. they’re profitable already profitable and growing aggressively without additional funding

Do the startup 100% google isn’t worth the down level and may not be in NYC. Also their comp for L3 will barely beat the startup
