95k base 8k sign on bonus 103kTC New York City office (whenever we return) Is this good? Tbh I thought it would be a tiny bit higher since 102kTC is the median package on levels.fyi for their headquarters in Norwalk, Connecticut. Why not maximize your gains, ya know? I asked for a lil more but no biggy if not, since i am extremely grateful for this opportunity. Waiting to hear back from the recruiter What do you think? currently have another offer 83K TC charlotte, NC #engineering #software #swe #factset #bloomberg #fintech
Do a bit of number crunching, the NC offer may be better since NYC is very expensive
That seems very low, especially for NYC. Id say crappy companies pay about 130k for new grads and better ones pay 170k+.
Yea 100k in nyc take home pay will be like 5k a month rent like 2-3k you are running very lean
People suggesting NC may be better are ignoring an important factor, which is growth. NYC is likely an area with more opportunity than NC therefore its worth a slight pay cut (unless u plan on moving in 2 years when u get a new job). I think its a good, not great offer. Seems in line with others I know of. And u can def find rent below 2k in NYC if u live with roommates or aren't living directly in lower Manhattan. Also is there an expected perfoemance bonus? That would drive this number higher and I would be surprised if there wasn't.
I like this comment a lot, as it speaks to what’s important in a first job. Actually the pay cut is only like 2k according to a COL calculator. I’m not sure about the performance bonus
Your first just just needs to set you up for your next. After 2-3 jobs later in your twenties is when u start thinking more long term. IMO, I would pick whichever job is going to give you the opportunity to learn the most, and gain the most marketable skills (ie: modern stack) And once u stop learning, or it slows down drastically, you look for your next. Also, if low COL is important to you, there are lower COL areas with great tech opportunities. Austin and Denver come to mind. NC also has some, but not as many.
You cannot live very well in NYC on $100k. No matter what anyone says, and despite the mass exodus out of NYC, rents are sky high, even with roommates. Seems like you may be better off talking to Techs or Financials, who generally pay more.
Rents are way lower. Most buildings (at least in Manhattan) have a lof of vacancies in NYC right now. The concessions offered are pretty crazy in some cases.
How was the interview OP’
a lot easier than expected. phone interview i forget what the problem was but it was lc easy-medium. final interview was 3 hours 15 minutes first round was demo of their main product. low stakes second round was easy coding question. not even leetcode. analyze what the code does, explain how it misses its intended purpose, and then fix it. third round was system design with two interviewers about designing a social media page last round was a good convo with hiring manager. i thought i did mediocre in system design but they hired me
That’s great, thank you and congrats on your offer! How was the hackerank for you?
I know many people on blind think that 100k in NYC is poverty wages but it's really not. Most financial companies only pay 100k-120k for entry level anyway, and the vast majority of non-tech new grads living in the city make less. Obviously most of those people have roommates so do that if you want to save money. It's not enough to live a fancy life but it's definitely enough to live a good one, save, and gain experience for higher paying jobs in the future. Edit: with student debt it will be harder to save as much but the rest of the comment still holds true.
That is a standard offer, after 5 years if you are lucky you will make $130k. They don’t give any bonus and raise are like 1% to 2%. Lot of people are leaving and they jobs are being filled in India.
thank you for your insight. i hope it’ll be an okay adventure for a first job
For first job it is a great company, try to get into team that is working in aws, you will learn. Don’t stick more than 2 years. Good luck !
Did you end up taking this job? The offer is pretty typical. I think you should consider WHERE you want to be before you consider TC. If you want to be in NYC, take the job, level up your skills, and strongly consider moving on in 2 years as another poster said. There are a lot of smart people at FactSet still, but as others have noted, there are people leaving for more TC. FactSet is a terrific opportunity in which to learn. A ton of people have let FactSet for FAANG companies, especially Google and FB. Another plus for FactSet at this time is that unlike what some of the old Glassdoor posts say, the tech stack is considerably more modern than it was. Lots of teams are working on AWS, and there may even be some internal training ops for getting certified if that interests you. I don't log into Blind that much but feel free to PM me with questions about FactSet.
