Safe to join AWS?
I signed the offer and my start date is end of November. Amazon stock keeps crashing (down by 20% in the last month) not sure if I should join. Meta is not safe place either though but survived from the layoffs and seeing stock is "recovering" 11 yoe, bay meta tc (e5) : 350k? (@~100 stock price down from 480K, GE in the last perf review) amazon tc (l6): 530k
AWS is the absolute worst place. Tight deadlines, stressful environment, never given enough time to complete the product.
meta isn't better
I spent 7 years in EC2 and they were great. AWS is big, so yes, there are bound to be some bad spots, but definitely not all of it.

Really a good time with the stock down as the RSUs are priced lower. You won’t get RSU vest for two years and by the (hopefully) the stock will be much higher
worrying about their layoff.
Just my hypothesis, Meta is not safe either if you are not working on core social media products. I don't see future for VR, metaverse, coolaid products

I was coming from a cybersecurity company - I don’t think there’s a cooler place in this field to work with regards to scope, impact, and speed
If you survived the layoffs Meta is the safest place.
I guess there will be more layoffs as layoffs always come in batch
Man amazon had horrible culture when i interned there, ofcourse depends on team but I’ve seen way better folks at Meta in general. 12weeks internship was enough for me to know how toxic the culture is at Amazon and it’s too workaholic as well. People at Meta won’t push you to work and be available after 5 unless you’re oncall. Amazon had daily standups, biweekly sprints and micro managing, meta has nice 6month planning and weekly team sync.
Which org/team?
Join Amazon. If you want really safe, I can give you a referral. We're about as safe as you can get. We don't got RSUs, but this is the place to be in a recession.

I know a bunch of people who work with them, could side-door my way in if I wanted to. I also work with risk on a daily basis. Making an assessment of your situation and offering best judgment call based on all factors. If I were in your spot, I'd leave. I wouldn't be comfortable at Meta.
