You don't think a PhD in ML can get 300k? The million dollar salaries are obviously for people with a reputation.
300k is high E4 or low/medium E5 offer at FB/G. Definitely nothing special and PhD in ML can easily get it. .1% comment probably applies to 1m+ salaries which are unusual but not unheard of.
This guy also studied under Jeff Hinton, father of Deep Learning, at Toronto, arguably the best school for it. This is like extrapolating Lebron James’ pay to the average NBA player
