Hi, I wonder if anyone can share your comp for DS positions (esp. 2-3 yrs of exp)? Feel like Im getting low pay so just want to know 🥲 Mine is 126k, Bay Area, 3 yrs of exp, master degree Thank you! #datascience #dataanalytics #data
Bay area should pay more than 150k for entry level
It doesn't unless you're at faang or similar. More typical starting tc is 130ish unless phd.
Agree with Meta. I started at 90k 6 yrs back in bay area and was not at FAANG. Genentech pays much better. 6yrs back people were starting around 120 plus bonus and stocks.
Degree?
Master degree 🥲
School rank ?
This is too low bud with experience at your plate that puts you middle of junior to senior. You need to get out of there asap. More than titles look at compensation and learning opportunity because firms can only do so much on titles.
Thanks for the advise. Yah, I need to look for other opportunities since my efforts/work were not valued here
I'll share mine since noone else seems to have shared theirs. I started at 125k and recently got bumped up to 144k, fully remote as well so don't have to deal with Bay Area cost of living (which is where I used to be). I have ~3 years of data experience and mostly projects for DS experience. Been at KP for about ~6 months. If those 3 years of experience are data related and masters degree is in data analytics/data science or adjacent then I would be expecting 150-160k+ for roles in the bay area MINIMUM. You are solid mid level and should be able to get that comp in the bay area (not just in big tech imo). It wouldn't hurt to start looking and to start practicing interviewing. Best of luck!
I’m a new grad data scientist with a MSc and I’m getting paid $145k base (TC $190) at BCG. No full-time work experience prior to this job.
Crap you make more than me. I’m 140k as a BI engineer with two years of experience . I’m finishing my masters this semester. Looks like BCG is where I’m applying.
DE, 160k, Toronto, 0 yoe, bachelor's
This is TC or Base pay?
TC
PhD, 4YOE, remote, $160 TC Yes I know I'm underpaid. Anyone hiring?
Living LCOL? Also PhD + 4yoe?
Remote in mcol but could be lcol. 4 years in addition to PhD.
Sorry to piggy back on your thread but also curious about this. I’m at a non profit in NYC making $95k as a director of data and I’m wondering how to better package myself so I can make more. I have Data Science experience that was coded as Data Analyst since 2016, working on building custom DBs from scratch in MSSQL/Azure and Snowflake/AWS; deep SQL experience, good python and R experience, very good at complex Tableau including Prep and customizing GIS analyses in Tableau using mapbox for custom analytic layers etc. I am starting to wet my toes in dbt but I’ve had a good amount of experience overall with engineering data pipelines in addition to transforming and visualizing data. Does this count as data science? Can I make more than I do now? I’m mostly self taught apart from one IT certificate obtain in 2008 after a 6 month immersive boot camp and a recent senior scrum master certification (more for leadership/soft skills) so it’s been hard to know what I’m worth.
My suggestion by from reading your post is focus on business impact and not tech skills.
Like focus on “for __ I streamlined outreach and data collection and automated —— reports measuring — KPIs?” I see a lot of job postings focused on skills, would you say they are out of reach for me even if I feel I could do them bc I don’t have a degree in the field? Would getting certifications or going to a bootcamp help fix that?
5.5 years in analytics, 2 years as a DS proper. 220k TC, sql monkey at LinkedIn

BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Definitely low for Bay Area
Yah, I feel like thats is for new grad DS position, but dont know how to ask for a raise
Every company I worked at you need a counter to justify a raise, otherwise they just “assume” you’re making market rate. So go do that
