I’m currently interviewing with several large companies for a mid level product designer role. I’ve been a little out of touch with interviewing since I stayed at my last company for years (5 YOE). I live in a big city with high COL (but not as much as San Francisco or NYC). Read online that the base salary for my level is around 125k but that seems a bit low to me, especially since I was paid more than that before. How much do you guys ask for/are getting paid? Trying to get a general idea so I don’t lowball myself when the recruiters ask for my salary expectations. Thanks. #design #interviews #ui/ux #salaries #salarycomparison #salarynegotiation #salary
What city? Are you pursuing remote only? I'm a hiring manager and I wrestle with salaries weekly. Might have input if you share more.
I’m in Austin, TX. Pursuing both remote and office hybrid roles.
OP, I interviewed at realtor.com which is ATX based. I have 1.5(ish, closer to 1) YOE and I was told 125. For austin and with your YOE you should def be getting at least 150 imo edit to clarify: I don’t live in austin anymore so they also gave me a salary for my city. I didn’t receive an offer cus I accepted a different job but was told 125
It depends on the companies you’re interviewing at. 125-150 is a rough ballpark, depending on if you’re interviewing for senior roles then that’s more like 150-180 base.
I'd say those base salaries apply to the good tech companies. You're not going to get that most places. We have people in Louisiana asking for 180k for senior roles at our non-tech company. The market is spreading some really malformed salaries around leading to a lot of reeeeeally greedy sounding candidates.
OP says they’re in a HCOL area, and I’m assuming the large companies are in tech. LCOL areas in non-tech are obviously much lower, nothing I listed is specific to top companies though. I’m in a mid-tier city, and I’ve been a hiring manager for the last 4 years so that’s where my perspective comes from.
200k + TC
Dm for Dropbox. We pay well enough for me to buy top shelf stuff.
Hi, would you be open to referring?
Dm with LinkedIn for referral
For senior product designers (5 YOE) at remote tech companies that compete with FAANG for talent: $150–180k base. Maybe lower if they adjust a lot for COL Guessing that the equity side would be $250–350k over 4 years, but I have less data on this. Feel free to DM
5 YOE is not really senior
What YOE would you say is senior? At 5 YOE I was getting leveled as a senior :) but quality of YOE matters a lot
$125k base seems reasonable for mid-level. Maybe up to $150k in a HCOL.
Happy to refer for coinbase, mid level (l4) is ~250k tc and SR. (L5) is ~ 405k tc
I'd love a referral for Coinbase. Mid to senior level designer with 6 YOE
Same. Would love to hear more. Sr/Lead YOE 15.
Spec work until you prove you’re worth 55k
Ever hear of figma? Lol
Seems on the low end. Been quoted 150-190 base for places I'm interviewing (Bitly, Meta, Instacart). Mid to senior with 6YOE and current 145k base in Arizona
I’n curious what’s your current TC? Surprised your base could be so high for a small company in Arizona. 190 base will be the high end for a senior designer. Usually only people with around 10 YOE get a base that high.
Don't go to Instacart. This isn't going to be a good year for it as the pandemic rebounds and we face a possible recession. Also TC isn't as good as others.
Can you clarify your years of experience? I can’t tell from your message if you’ve been in the job for “years” (for me, this means over 10) and are still a mid-level (not Senior or Lead) designer, or if you’ve just been at the same company for a few years and are looking for more current salary intel. FWIW I do think 125 is normal for mid level in non-HCOL regions, but the range is also quite large.
Thanks for bringing that up. I’ve edited my post with my YOE.
