Right now, I am contracting as a Data Engineer for CapitalOne at slightly less than $100,000/annum. I have 3+ YOE. I have had an eye-opening experience with a previous contracting company where they were billing the client $85/hour out of which I was getting only $38/hour! Insane right!!. After I found out about this, I was able to negotiate a $52/hour rate which was a 37.5% hike! Only because the client didn't want me to leave and the client manager told the contracting company to reduce their share so he doesn't have to lose a good employee. Long story short, wondering how much CapitalOne is paying my current contracting company and if I should negotiate with them for higher pay. Any input is highly appreciated. #salaries #capitalone #contractor #tech
You should expect that the contracting company is billing you out at double your salary. The contracting company should be providing you some form of benefits (holiday, PTO, medical / dental insurance, etc) which typically run 30%-40% of your salary, depending on the benefits.
