Never seen any of my tech friends or peers work there (threat intelligence). Read a few reviews but didn't find anything substantial. How is the company overall and how does it compare to Verizon?
Security here is an absolute dumpster fire. Avoid it. Amazing if you want to rest and vest and deliver nothing all day, to pad out a few years before you retire or hit FIRE. Bad place to be for career development. My technical skillset has gone backwards and despite the excellent comp I'm on here, I'm now basically unemployable elsewhere.
+1 to this comment. Almost everyone I have worked with at some point have expressed that they are not happy with their personal developers
+1 pmts in salesforce security, excellent for rest and vest, bad for career development
I would avoid Salesforce security like the plague. The most demoralizing soul-sucking org I’ve ever been in. Theater and metrics manipulation to keep the execs happy while all the real security professionals flee for greener pastures.
Im not defending Salesforce, but is Verizon really that much better? Maybe someone with experience with both can chime in. OP, I would recommend jumping to Salesforce unless you have other stronger options and get your TC raised. If you don't like it, you have a taller TC baseline for next jump and plenty of time to LC/interview prep.
That's what I'm thinking. Jump on and see how it's like, if I'm not growing then I'll look elsewhere
So if Salesforce security is a bad place to be. Where is good? Crowdstrike? Meta? Google?
Google, CrowdStrike, Netflix, Okta. Microsoft has many security teams across its various business units. Some are amazing, others used to be good but are now dumpster fires, so you have to be careful.
Netflix security is not mature at all. I’m pretty sure nearly every company is a fucking dumpster fire at this point. Nobody cares about security.
What's interesting to me about Salesforce is that the security job postings seem to be targeting rock stars - they seem to be looking for people with crazy skills and exp, people that have given talks at conferences, things like that. I've been curious about it and have not applied mostly because I'm just a regular security guy, not leet anything. So it's interesting to come here and read that it's not a good place to be. Where is the disconnect? Is it mainly management that's not good? Or do they somehow hire people that fake it in the interview process but are not actually good?
They hire people like that, those people join, use none of their skills, and then they get bored and bail within 12-18 months. The ordinary B players do hang around, but there's not enough interesting work to keep the A players engaged.
That's interesting to hear. So is it more like a typical security gig at any other company? What are some reasons you'd recommend / not recommend it? Without sharing too much of course
Does anyone know the IAM team from Salesforce security org? How was it?
Salesforce is worlds better than Verizon. Completely different tier.
