I am interviewing for a Director role with Salesforce. Here is the comp details: - Base: $260k - Bonus: 20% - Joining RSU: $250k (4 year vesting period) - No yearly RSU refresh. Excluding the joining RSU, this is less than what I am making now. But I like to get to the Director level. So I want to negotiate to increase the base pay by $50k and a yearly RSU: $100k. With FAANG this shouldn't be an issue but not sure about Salesforce. Is my aspiration point out of Salesforce's pay range? does it make sense to negotiate with Salesforce? If you have any negotiation tips, please do share.
Why G to SF 🤯
G isn't all good. The work you got to do to thrive doesn't make sense and sometimes meaningless.
What’s your role at Google? Is it for an Eng role? Salesforce Director is more like a Google M1.
250K RSU total for 4 years? So 62.5K per year? If so, that's quite low even for Salesforce. DOE for Engineering?
Even 250k yearly is kinda low. Better stay at G as L6 EM.
YoE?
It’s a well known fact that Salesforce titles are inflated. Thats why they pay less. Don’t chase director title there. It’s better to chase VP there
If director of engineering... https://www.levels.fyi/companies/salesforce/salaries/software-engineering-manager/levels/director
Not sure with all the layoffs the had but I was a senior director at salesforce. I’ve hired directors and there is room to negotiate if they really want you.
And stock btw is not great at sfdc until you reach vp.
Good to know there is room for negotiation. Is a comp with base:$320k and yearly RSU refresh: $100k negotiable?
Lol that's my director at sfdc offer circa 2016
What geo are you in? That determines how much room you have to negotiate…

Director level at CRM is an IC role. Not sure you’d want to index just on the title name.
Based on my initial discussions, I believe it aligns with a Principal IC role at a FAANG company. My rationale is that I plan to leverage this Director role as a stepper to find leadership opportunities in future.
