Hey folks, I am contemplating a potential offer that I might receive from a startup for a VP of product. My current TC is $350 base, 87500 bonus and $100k stocks. My question is will a startup match this and is this a worthwhile move? The startup’s product vision and strategy is good and sound.
Only the startup you are interested in can realistically give you a number to see if they can match. The cash component alone will be ver hard for most startups to match.
Startups are broke and they will not match those numbers. If a startup does try and remotely match these then it is a red flag in this economy. Always assume that the runway at a startup is 12 months or less. (Based on experience). No stability if that matters to you.
I agree with lewis44 — cash will be difficult for a startup to match. How many YOE do you have?
I doubt a startup can match the cash component, but you don’t join a startup expecting them to match cash. You join for the potential 10-20x on equity.
Most of the Ppl are not giving much weightage to those ESOPs, as we don't know when it goes ipo or gets acquired. So,they just focus on Cash and bigger role so that they can later go to an established company in the same role. That's the plan.
GL then, not sure what you will find. Going to a startup means you will need to compromise and take some risk. Ive only joined preipo companies but the payout from the last IPO was well worth it.
Depends on startup’s funding situation and what you bring to the table. RSU liquidity is gone but cash could land in right zip code.

The recruiters don’t know which positions will be axed. Plus there are only a couple of junior PM roles open for the entire company.
