Hey guys. I need help picking between a return intern offer at Amazon and an internship at Samsara. I'm a Junior in CS. The pay is pretty irrelevant for an internship, but I do care about new grad conversion and the pay for that. Leave a comment if you have any advice. #amazon #samsara #engineering
Amazon. Get that experience of large scale and a brand name on your resume that’ll open doors for you in the future. Samsara is great but you need a solid brand name early on
Does it matter if I interned at Amazon last summer? Or are you talking about try to get a new grad job at Amazon?
Nah, intern experience is not of the same weight as FTE. Taking up the full time role will add more value to your resume.
Ur too late for samsara in terms of options for IPO soon. not much point to intern there and then join as a full time with public stock
I’ve left pretty recently but I don’t think it’s late for the jump. The last valuation has been 5.4B for over 2 years now.
Go with Amazon, last year we rescinded a bunch of new grad offers, in preparation for the pandemic. The management at Samsara doesn't care about new grads.
Amazon pip's and fires employees does that make any difference? My advice to op is to consider different parameters that are important to them and choose based on then. Both companies are doing good innovative work so you should not go wrong with either.
At least with pip you get advance notice and severance, rescinding offers left new grads out to dry and scramble to find other opportunities
Go with Amazon
Could you please also add some reasons why?
Sure. Our management idolizes Amazon. You will see them constantly mention them, so our culture also embodies one that is very similar to theirs. Middle management is super inexperienced and thus, you can end up in a bad situation where they just don’t know what they’re doing. The pro is that there is definitely upside, but your wlb and happiness is VERY dependent on the team.
Samsara for the impact - you'll actually work on something used by customers. And smaller team means you'll get to work closer to and learn from more senior engineers
You work on things used by actual customers at Amazon. This is not a legitimate reason to join Samsara.
Lmao what a clown
Interns in Amazon are treated the best among all employees. I am always jealous of them.
Hahahaha
