BREAKING: Internal sources confirm another round of layoffs just hit emails at Tesla. For real.
Recently I received offers from both these companies as a NCG. Samsung is offering 135k base, 30k sign on 20k relocation which needs to be returned if you leave the company in 2 years and an extra 20k after a year as a retention and 10k after the second year. Samsung is not offering any RSUs. Location is San Jose. Ampere offer is not yet revealed. Im guessing 135k base, 10k relocation, not sure about sign on. But for sure i know they will offer me some RSUs. Location is Portland. Which offer would be better considering the current world scenarios. i.e.., verification vs performance modeling. Note: I have worked in verification and performance modeling as an intern and i enjoyed them both equally. #hardware #interview #semiconductor
Samsung doesn't give RSU because they don't have stock in the US. They give all cash. Your sign on and retention would be RSU at another company. You also get some percentage of your base as annual bonus. I am guessing at your level, it's 10%?
Yes but even ampere also provides the annual bonus
Yeah, but isn't it the amount that matters and not the asset type?
I would take the ampere offer, you'll get more experience and work with bright people.
Ampere has no future with everyone making their own chips
Lol
gpu perf modeling. And Samsung > ampere
Samsung is T3, ampere is T1
Ok
I can guarantee that samsung will become IBM after I move out of Samsung.
what do you mean.. sorry im bad at catching sarcasm 😬
If you don’t mind what’s your YOE and degree?
I have 4 years of experience in Firmware Development and Master of Science in Computer Engineering
Samsung as a company is too big and diverse to fall. You may not get the competition that you receive in smaller companies. Samsung makes fantastic NPUs and edge accelerators. For GPU, I guess they work on and enhance upon MALI architecture of ARM or recently eclipse GPU in collaboration with AMD which is new product. In recent days Samsung's push and focus is towards GPU and edge computing for ML/AI applications.
GPU group is not good , nobody knows what’s going on , leadership change every 6 months , if it’s SSI it would be a different case .
This is how Intel was before I left too. Not a good sign for the company or group you’re in. At Ampere now and never been happier, having a unified leadership and one product focus is life changing, no longer getting pulled in 3 different directions and political infighting, etc.
Ampere provide the Stocks but as it is pre IPO the stocks value will be 0 if you leave before IPO… be careful with this.
Samsung provides greater Job security in volatile times. But no RSU is a issue.
I’m curious why you think this? Ampere is still growing and hiring, every other company is frozen solid and has done double digit % layoffs. It’s a myth that big companies provide security, I’m sorry to be the one to burst your illusion but billion dollar corporations don’t care about your family and will cut you as soon as the numbers trend a different way. The only way to be ahead of this is to stay on your game and the best way to do this is to work at a small company that has a lot of room for growth.
Samsung does not do lay offs..Been there for many years
