Have a offer from Samsung as an new grad Engineer Base : 80k Sign on: 10k Yearly increase of 12% If I don't stay for 24 months I have to repay the sign on bonus Questions: Is this a good offer? What's the current culture of SAS? ( I read reviews years ago about overworking and not being able to take time off) Will this trap me into a semiconductor industry chain? ( I'm currently a software developer and would like to develop that. ) Can I negotiate? Any feedback at all about anything.
Samsung in its home country was notorious for micro-management and pressuring employees to deliver. I would not recommend Samsung for this reason unless you are unable to find other jobs.
I have a part time so I have "something" but I would classify my many rejections as unable to get others
So is every other company these days! At least they are upfront about it
Not sure about America but Samsung Semiconductor India has awesome WLB.
What is WLB? Sorry new

There are a ton of H1B filings for Taylor to compare. You could cite them in your counter at 87k for Engineer I. Edit: yearly increase is bullshit btw. If you aren't happy with year one title/comp, do not sign. You will progress in a few years by hopping to another semi. If you just love samsung you can come back at senior/staff.
By H1B I'm guessing you mean comps that require a degree?
Also, do you think if I don't like semis it would difficult to get our of that chain and be something like a software eng?
Ah man samsung doesnt pay much and they wont negotiate as well🥹
I work for SAS as a new grad its great you dont have a lot of responsibilities, but its a great place to start
1. "Yearly 12% increase". You mean the 6% divided to quarterly performance bonuses and 6% based on yearly performance. 2. The offer looks like what we give for new grads. It is not bad for Samsung Austin Semiconductor starting as an E1. 3. Although many outspoken people on these boards will talk about the bad things. The culture has changed a lot over the years. At least in the several departments I work with, no one has issues taking PTO or working insane hours any more. 4. Are you going into a software team where you will be a able to speak to software development things for landing a future non-semiconductor job? I have seen many non-software people leave in the last 3 years and land non-software jobs as Facebook, Amazon, and Dell if that helps. 5. You can always ask for something reasonable with a negotiation. If you counter with 90k base, they might at least respond no. It is not likely they are going to move much at all on the new grad pay. But I am always interested to hear if that has changed so let me know.
I really appreciate the time you took to put a well thought out response. It really eases my mind a bit. I'll definitely keep you updated.
You were right on negotiations. Thanks for the info though, it was helpful.
If you're a software developer better try hard and interview elsewhere. If you don't get anything then join Samsung. I think you aren't on Visa right?
Correct I'm not on visa. Do you have any recommendations? I've applied A LOT buy the tech hit is affecting things.
