Samsung vs Uber
I recently received an offer from Samsung. I also received an offer from Uber’s pricing team. And I am currently deciding which offer is better for career development. For sure Uber is a bigger name, but as a software engineer, will I get a chance to design machine learning model? Or the designing part is mostly done by data scientist? For the Samsung team, I know I will have a chance to design a deep learning model from scratch. That’s what makes Samsung’s position a bit more interesting. And also Samsung is more likely to pay higher.
Stay
Samsung has no stock all cash, so you may miss out on future gain. Uber is the other extreme, valuation can drop a lot depends on what happen and when it exit.

Not really many people consider Samsung vs Uber so I am not going to review my level here. But the level at Uber is a demotion for me and that’s why Uber can’t match Samsung’s pay. However Uber is definitely a bigger name and has better technology overall.

Samsung culture is not that great. Uber got new CEO and is changing things and taking company in the right direction.

Don't come to Samsung, culture sucks and mgmt doesn't know software.... All major decisions are made in Korea with a very short term view ...
The product I am working on focuses on US customers. Do you think that we will still be constrained by Korean HQ?
I was made similar promises when I joined Samsung ... But every significant decision comes out of HQ ... There are a bunch of smart engineers in US and it's great to work with them but mgmt is toxic ...

Sorry, but I heard that culture at Uber is bad also, a lot of politics. It’s just hard for me to imagine how worse culture at Samsung is. However there are so many people complain about culture of Samsung. hmmm
