So I finished the interview and already got the offer and signed. Then got a call saying another team wants to pull me to his group, same Yield Ehancement Department. Recruiter says it's the first time seeing such thing... same offer, I have the choice. I have yet to talk to the new team lead and get an idea of what the team does. Do you think I can request a bump in the offer or am I being too cocky? Newly requested role: PI Logistics Engineer Original interviewed role: PIE 1 #hardware #semiconductor #SAS #SamsungAustinSemiconductor #Samsung #Engineering
Don't enter these bullshit roles. LC and GTFO
If you don't mind, could you provide a bit more insight on what's so bs about these roles?
OP, most of the decisions will be made from HQ. Your primary role will be making sure the blueprints from HQ is working, fighting your way to make improvements, and dealing with HQ peeps speaking broken English who either have issues properly understanding what you say or have difficulties in communicating the specifics.
If it’s Yield Enhancement, and if you have a background in programming you will do a lot of python/R programming utilizing internal big data cloud platforms. It works but not the most perfect tools out there.
Personally don't mind needing to learn and do a lot of programming as I have always been interested in that area even during MS degree pursuit. But the bad part is I have very little to no exp in it
Don’t worry much about it. You’ll pick up stuff fairly quickly. Just don’t get too frustrated with all the red-tape and BS. It’s simply the operational environment we’re in. Frankly semiconductor manufacturing companies are just the same sh*t, different place. Work hard, do your stuff, but also think about building up your resume and finding a better place. For native Koreans, Samsung might be one of the best companies to work for but here we have “superior” options.
PIE i heard wasnt that good WLB
Hope that was mainly due to the team managers' style difference.
Samsung is in dire need of people so it wont hurt to see if you can get more. I doubt they will in my opinion
I was thinking the same. I felt that they were desperate for more people and rushed to ask to have me in their team. But current offer, HR seems to have fixed their mind on the current offer...
A bit of the dirty secret is that even HR over hear needs to get approval from HQ for further arrangements. Early this year the HR director who is no longer with Samsung had to fight hard to get everyone a bump to be market-competitive since we were paid 🥜. Mostly the E2 levels got the biggest bump along with some senior engineers. HQ does not care sh*t much about us..:-( For now the Austin site may be manageable to a point in terms of man-power but once Taylor opens up, that’s going to be a big problem.
Really appreciating the information, thank you thank you
Any updates?
Offer TC?
Request for bump
I am just a little concerned with all the offer recinding posts and comments lately, also I have no clue what the PI Logistics engineer avg. in austin, more specifically Samsung Austin.
