I have heard great things about Amazon for it's Engineering standard and level of work. My friends also recommended it's a good company to start career as brand name & learning helps. But reading blind Amazon PIP posts, I am very scared to join. Specially after reading that even after delivering you get put into PIP. Is it as bad as Blind says it is?
If you get a bad manager you are SOL.
That's true at most companies. There are very few places that protect employees from bad managers.
Once you get past 2 years and you are used to the grind, you will go into a zen mode that weirdly resembles a Stockholm Syndrome. Most folks who have attained nirvana at Amazon look like this...
I don't even understand this comment was made to make me feel better or tell me to not join 😂
It's true.
It’s not. And even if you end up being PIPed and let go (which is unlikely) you will leave with some severance and faang name on your resume.
Why would your manager PIP you if you are successfully delivering? Don't overindex on the tiny number of edge cases reported on Blind. Unfair and crappy stuff can happen anywhere. Amazon is bigger and thus these small number of complaints get magnified in an online forum.
My advice for you is to run from AWS, if you have a better offer .. or you can do it 1 or 2 years just to experince the enviroment over there. Bulshit, i was hired at Amazon, everybody is complaning from the management .., they are very weak and it's very political and toxic, you will be depressed when completing your first year and you are done for achieving 2 years don't defend amazon, i'm sure you are a manager or ass kisser.
Just join and if you get PIP'd, walk out like Jerry McGuire "Who's coming with me?"
Make sure you start yelling ‘show me the money!!’ beforehand otherwise no one will come with you, and then it will be awks
You will grow rapidly at Amazon. It's a place where you will have more responsibility placed upon you than anywhere else ... you may sink or swim, but in any case you will learn. And at this point in your career, that is the most important thing.
Blind can be somewhat of an echo chamber. It's not that bad. Jobs in general suck but we all work to pay the bills.
Not one person on here has ever taken any responsibility for being PIPed. Every post is essentially them venting and looking for some kind of validation of how it wasn’t their fault. Sure, there can be some shifty circumstances, but it’s not like Amazon is just running around removing people in mass for no reason. It’s not a bad place to work and as mentioned, it’s a great resume builder. Best of luck. Have fun and be safe.
Give it a shot, it's not for everyone but you'll likely get something out of it. It wasn't for me, but i got paid well, learned some things, and have the stamp on my resume. I don't regret it
One commit a day, keeps the PIP away.. but ofcourse if you have attitute issue, God will abandon you
