Had a meeting in a closef door small meeting room on the pretext of updating my tasks. My male manager then proceeds to scold me for not completing the task before the sprint end and say something along the lines off watch out etc. Dismisses my qns etc. Im just an intern and have been doing fine until this most recent task... Yes its my company beside my username and im new to the workforce, is this normal? Felt a bit traumatised and cant quit because its counting for credits at my college. Need advise.
No, it's not common. There's always a better way to say things. Next time, make sure to voice out to him if the conversation made you feel uncomfortable.
"I'm just an intern and have been doing fine." You gotta realize you're never going to be a perfect worker. Yes, there will be things you need correction on. If you think a meeting with your manager about you not doing work is "scolding" then you're in for a bad time.
I did finish my tasks for all the previous sprints except this most recent one and was even complimented on the speed of my submissions for prev sprints. This is the first time he ever brought up my performance issues. And yes I did write the code its not like i slacked off this sprint but it was not exactly what was needed. Was just suprised how he can suddenly become so scary...
"I've done all my work before! Just this time I didn't do my work." Surely you can understand why you were "scolded."
HR works for the company, not the employees, so be careful reporting anyone to HR. It's not normal and that is a bad situation to be in. There's no good advice I can give without really knowing the corporate culture and the personalities. If you befriend someone at the company that has been there awhile, that tends to be the best way to get to the truth about how things work in the organization and the best way to handle certain lifers at the org.
Jesus, why would anyone scold an intern? Interns aren't supposed to be productive like an employee. This is on him, not you. Finish your time there and don't worry about it.
Alright thanks, guess Ill just try to not screw up again and count down my days
If you’re an intern it should be expected that this would happen. Interns are learning how scrum and sprints work and don’t know time management. It sounds like your boss has unrealistic expectations.
No it’s not normal. Report to his manager and HR
wtf interns should be trained and mentored
scolded?🤭
There is this famous quote I remember- when you tolerate things, you teach people how to treat you. Please report this.
