I moved to Seattle thinking it's a big tech hub and there would be opportunities to meet other techies. It's been 6mth and I can't find anyone. Wtf! Am I doing it wrong? Tech events on meetup can be classified into the following - Events for nontech people trying to get into tech. Usually have no FAANGMULA people there. Mostly tier 2 or lower companies present. Most people very junior. - Events put up by FAANGMULA to demo or sell their shit. Most people are from tier 2 and tier 3 companies. Mixed seniority. - Big networking centric tech events, but full of financial advisors vultures prowling around looking for their prey. Also mostly tier 2 and 3 companies. Skewed towards junior and nontech people. Where the fuck are the FAANGMULA employees? Where are the FAANGMULA parties and events? Honestly the best event I've been to is an Amazon recruiting event where I get to hangout with people around or higher than my caliber. And no I wasn't looking for a job. This is pathetic if a recruiting event is the most fun tech event I've been to! TC $260k. L63. 6 yoe.
What do you want to do in tech event anyway? Their purpose is to serve company koolaid
Meet with other techies. Talk about work (without disclosing proprietary info of course). Networking.
I met at-least 10 techies last night in the strip club.
Amazon and Microsoft VPs?
Do I have to be L7+ for a lap dance?
Most people in SEA socialize through arranged marriage.
