Got an L5 offer from Amazon and have an option to either stay in Portland or move to Seattle. Pay is going to be the same for both cities. TC 320k 175 Base 130k Y1 and 95k Y2 bonus 100RSU YOE 5 Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Portland Pros: Cheaper housing, can buy a decent house here. No sales tax COL is lower Seattle Pros: No state tax Overall a better city life. Cons here would be expensive housing
Bellevue or bust
Make it a poll, And Portland would be cheaper than Seattle overall
Both cities are very similar , Portland is what Seattle used to 15 yes ago. Take ur pick
Portland is a tax hellhole so Freattle all the way.
Portland is the little brother that never got attention as a kid so they tried to mirror the big brother Seattle. Only Seattle went on to college and became something while Portland never grew up.
Portland
Neither. I live the ☀️ and can't stand having 🌧️ for half of the time.
Seattle, no state income tax
Portland has 2 city taxes (Pre-School & Homeless city taxes) that hit high earners hard. Really hope they repeal or revise them, cause Portland is shooting themselves in the foot with that tax.
Do those taxes have an expire date where voters have to re-up them? God I hope so. I want them gone.
Opt for Portland, stay in Vancouver WA and shop in Portland :)
Do this. Vancouver is a shitty town, but you can easily drive into Portland, save on taxes, and get an even better house. Get the best of both worlds.
Schools are not great if you have kids but otherwise okay
