I'm a software engineer with an non-traditional background with five years of experience as a software engineer. I got laid off this February, now I've already landed a new job. However, my recent job search has highlighted the increasingly selective nature of the market, with recruiters showing bias towards my non-CS background(I feel). Interestingly, a former colleague with 4 YOE but a CS degree got more job opportunities than I have. Meta declined my application, citing a shortage of headcount in the Bay Area, while Doordash informed me that I did not meet their qualification criteria, despite that I have interviewed with them for the same level position a year ago. I'm considering pursuing an online master's degree in software engineering. But Given the future trend for AI, should I just get a master degree specializing in machine learning (ML). I found some online MS degree programs: Georgia Tech: Online Master of Science in computer science University of San Diego: Ms in Applied AI Any suggestions? It might also depend on what you have on your resume. Companies are getting a little more selective and maybe having a higher tier company will get you noticed quicker.
In EE? Electrical engineering? Why?
