Sell or hold investments this year?

Have ~400k invested in stock market with long term strategy- through financial advisor. Separate from google stock. Lost 80k so far this year and not sure I have faith in the “strategy.”Thinking there is probably better use of that money and I’m worried about recession. Not sure if I should leave investments for long term or sell second part of this year and cut losses so it doesn’t get worse. Fairly new to investing. 29yo TC: 300k

Definitely hold on for the ride since you’re still young and don’t need the $

DCA works for a noob. Not for someone with a high balance

You don’t want to buy high and sell low. Continue holding. DCA if you can.

Just 80k? You are lucky, I lost 250k from a pot of 500k. Best thing to do now is to hold. You don't know when the markets will breakout again

there is probably better use of that money What strategy are you thinking about? “Probably” doesn’t sound very good

Pull out now invest again when it’s lower? Invest in fixing up house for renting instead , take some and put in savings or gold. I’m an investment noob obviously, but leaving money while stock esp tech is sinking and may keep sinking for a while doesn’t seem all that logical I guess

You're down 20%, and I'm assuming given your pansy level of risk appetite that you're not on margin, what are you so worried about? If the financial advisor is bare minimum qualified you will have reasonable diversification in either ETFs or blue chip stocks, so you'll be fine. Don't check your account and let it sit for the long term like the whole point of it is.

Meta XrvyTdfe Jul 9, 2022

Diversification is for someone who doesn't know what they are doing

No not margin. Concerned with all the layoffs that people will start needing money, pulling out further- will start tanking market. Plus war, inflation. Seems like could go a lot further down next few years and maybe better to just pull out now and reinvest when it goes lower. I get the whole ride the market thing but seems like particularly bad circumstances atm
