Hey Blind DS folks. Recently I saw a company post a contract position for a senior DSist where the max salary was 65/hr and it already had 11 applicants. For me this didn’t sound right. Normally I have seen this salary max out at 120/hr and that is at non-tech jobs. I bring this up cause if most of you also think this then I think it’s time to be careful about the job postings slashing the salaries… Know your worth and don’t let a company dictate it.
My company takes ~50%
If most companies decide to pay lower for a data scientist, isnt the market value of a data scientist lowered ? I think we are taking market value to be ever growing like an asset. What if it is not the core focus anymore
No one cares about AI anymore you’re right
Data Science isn’t all AI.

Same thing is happening for Senior DE. I'm interviewing for one around that pay rate and just plan to play hardball with them if/when offer comes. Very ready to walk away in worst case scenario.
Thats low pay for a DE especially if you have worked at Uber
I know. Especially considering it's a company in the same tier. It's insulting.
Times are tough my friend
Some of the recruiting agencies give meh pay
There were a bunch of these two years ago too. Don't read into it. +1 to know your worth.
No, the pay went down due to layoffs. Both in Bay Area and Seattle they are offering only 65$ for most roles. Be it swe, PM, DS..Its a good time to be employer not an employee or contractor
Plenty of people are applying for roles they aren’t qualified for. I’ve interviewed “Data Analyst” who has trouble doing basic SQL queries despite being “leads” at other big companies.
Everyone messes up interviews here and there, doesn't mean they're not qualified 🤷 SQL questions are easier than SWE leetcode, but there's still no guarantee you'll get something you're familiar with. What's daily work to you may well be a pattern that never once came up for someone else
@ebay let’s be clear, this is an interview…not a classroom. It’s my responsibility to make a judgement based on limited information. If a candidate is unable to show me that they have an understanding and ability to use basic functions or apply simple logic. Then, yes, I am not wrong to say a candidate is unqualified and I should recommend we not move forward with the process.

That $120 is what recruiter company would get. It is inflated since demand isnlow
Yah I think you’re right. Do you know what percentage of that the recruiting agency gets? I think it falls at about 20%?
Normally around 28%. 20% would be on the low end for big staffing firms.
