Hi All, I am planning to relocate to the Dallas area. Will probably live in north Dallas (Frisco, Plano, Prosper, Allen, etc.). When I look for software engineering jobs there, I see a lot more presence of traditional companies compared to tech companies. If I get a remote job, well and good, otherwise, for traditional firms such as BoA, Citi, WellsFargo, JPMC, Toyota, Liberty, Fidelity, and CVS. Pepsi etc. What is generally a good compensation range for the lead engineering role in Java backend development? Is 200k base possible? #tech #tc #dallas #softwareengineer
None of the companies you mentioned pay that much in Dallas
Dm for Amazon
Look at smaller, more advanced engineering roles at investment firms in Dallas. TC higher. Base usually never past 200k, but the bonus goes WAY up. At my firm, we’re a Python shop and you need to have some experience/interest in investment management…so maybe this doesn’t help you now, but maybe in the future.
200K base would be very very hard. Goldman and cap one might do it for top band engineer but doubt it tbh. These aren't companies that target tech talent. For them engineering is just like accounting or marketing even if they advertise otherwise. That's not a bad thing though. It's just how their companies are setup. Amazon and salesforce have presence in dfw. Target them.
Realistically you can target $150k. Also, you don’t need $250k TC to have a good life outside the HCOL areas. DFW is really a LCOL city so I’m surprised there’s even companies paying close to $200k.
Thanks people. I have an offer at 165 base plus 20k bonus in Dallas suburbs. My current base is 200k+ but i live in HCOL. So i am trying to figure out what are my options to get a good base in 180-200 range.
Get a remote job and stay in dallas. TC 200 yoe 1.5

First choosing a place then companies to work for? Isn't that a bit backwards? If I were you I would first find a company that matches your expectations. Then find a place close by to live.
