What's it like being a Senior Vendor Manager at Amazon? In terms of wlb, job expectations, and base salary. I also would like to know the levels of senior vendor managers. I don't know much about Amazon, but they're recruiting me and I wanted to learn what I'm getting myself into from anyone with experience. Thanks. TC: $150K
Stay away of dotcom. It is very toxic.
What do you mean? I'm not sure what it means to stay away from dotcom?
I refer to retail dotcom —-> Amazon.com . I have worked In four orgs and this one is the worst in wlb and leadership.
Sr VMs are level 6. It's a challenging job and expect long hours.
Thank you! Any idea what the salary band is for a Sr. VM? Also, I had my first phone interview with the hiring manager. They're inviting me to a 2nd phone interview. Any advice would be much appreciated!!
Ok Madison95, you seem like a nice person. I’ve managed dozens of SVMs over 7 years at Amazon. I’ll help. SVM is L6, and TC range is $225-285. Your role is to manage inputs for assigned vendors in your category, increase VFCC and assortment, and reduce out of stocks. Lots of vendor negotiations and internally a pretty high profile role. Also Amazon is data driven. To succeed you’ll need to be analytically adept and comfortable doing your own analysis. Writing skills also help, you’ll be assigned docs to author to explain your ideas. For interviews, you’ll need 3-4 examples from your previous experience in the STAR format illustrating your performance against the LPs. Good luck!
This is exactly what I needed to hear. THANK YOU!! I'll focus on the interviews the way you suggest. For within the TC, what's the typical range on the base salary and bonus?
You are only seeing what you want to see. If you get the offer make sure you do your due diligence. Retail pips people on a daily basis. It has some of the worst managers as they promote based on achievement as an IC. You have been warned. Advice from someone who joined retail 4 years ago and escaped successfully.
This. Do not listen to the previous post, it’s not accurate. Retail is very tough at Amazon, you can get pip too... be careful if join. All retail ppl try to get out of retail here.
Sure! Base is capped at $160 but you’ll get a sign on bonus paid in cash monthly for the first two years that will get you into the TC range. Stock vests over 4 years and is heavily weighted to the last two of those four years, after your signing bonus ends. Search Blind or Glassdoor for better explanations of Amazons comp policy. Key weirdness is that Amazon views your stock vests as part of your TC.
Your info is so wrong on the range. Please do not lead with wrong info.
Zvjh Troll (with autogenerated SN) we need to ban you from blind! Base is $185 in San Fran and NYC markets (capped). And how hard is it to lay out our comp structure. Here is how your RSUs vest: Year 1 - 5% Year 2 - 15% Year 3 - 40% Year 4 - 40% Note: after year 2, your vests come in 20% increments every 6 months.
If a Senior Vendor Manager is an L6 at Amazon, what is the title for an L7 and L8 in this line of work?
L7 is senior manager, xxx L8 is director
L7 are sometime called category leaders in vendor mgmt
that’s normally l8 but there are some L7s in smaller categories
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone. I made it passed the first two phone interviews and my next step is a full day of virtual interviews. Do you have any advice on how to tackle this next phase? It seems like a grueling day of interviews and I want to make sure I prepare thoughtfully. I also want to use the time with the interviewers as meaningfully as possible. Thank you so much for all the help so far.

Amazo is not a long term career, it’s a get in get out kinda place
How long do people stay? What do opportunities look like afterwards? Are you a vendor manager? Curious what career planning looks like for this role.
Role planning? You own your career at Amazon aka no career growth. Opportunities are bleak outside due to COVID. If you have a good stable job I would stay put
