Senior engineer with 8 YOE and want to be SDM at Google

My aim is to become an SDM at Google. I am currently a senior dev at Bloomberg with 8 YOE. Recently I have been feeling I like software/product management better and aspire to work for google. Please advise on how I can become.an SDM at G. Possible paths I could think of. 1. Become a TL at Bloomberg and apply for SDM roles in google ? 2. Enter as engineer at G and transition into management. 3. Apply directly for management roles at G Other ??

2 is your best bet if you can enter as L5. 1, 3. They'll try to hire you as an SDE regardless unless you have a lot of management experience

Ty. Wouldn't it be harder to become a manager after entering as sde as I'll have to prove myself before they consider me for role change

You need like 3-5 yr management experience for a fang to hire you as a manager. So go with option 2

As far as I know Google's managers are often still half technical/TL. Lots of EM coming from ex TL and such. So 2 is easier than direct hire for managing position.

Do you know how hard it is to transition into manager from.engineer within google?

Not sure exactly but heard it's not very hard. Reason mostly being Google SWEs are generally not a fan of converting to a manager. Not much competition. lol
