Say, if you are a contractor, and you get $85 / hour, which is already a high number I hear nowadays, so 85 x 47 weeks x 40 = 159800. If you work for a startup, you may get $180k base, and then your stock options could be $0, and possibly no bonus, and remember, that's after you work 10 to 12 works per day for 2 or 3 years. No bonus and the stock is worth 0. 1 out of 10 startup will make it. So it is like, I name a number from 1 to 10. Now you say a number. You think you will get what that number is? If you get it, then yes, it is like the odds that the startup will make it. And then you know the UPS driver who looks so muscular and slim and sunshine and energetic? Well, he is getting $170k. I can tell you one more thing: software engineers require a lot of thinking. Two thousand years ago in Asia, they already knew: thinking a lot hurts the spleen, and that in turn hurts how the nutrients is delivered to every part of the body. And the muscle is linked to the spleen. That's why if you sit there and think a lot all day, you probably do not have good muscles. Versus, being a UPS driver, they have to lift and move stuff (and no need to think too much). When muscle gets better, the spleen gets better, and that in turns helps nutrients move to every part of our body well. You have better energy, better immune system, better vitality, and that's why you will be likely naturally happy. If you want to know what those words are 2000 years ago in Asia, I can tell you. It is 思傷脾 脾主運化 So why not be that slim and happy muscular guy?
High effort troll
I wonder what those are when Capital One sends me the credit card offers 5 times in a year
?
Bro has brain damage. Please don’t speak anything about science. Thats not how the human brain and muscles work at all.
I think about this daily
a cousin of mine was in computer science, and he switch fields later on. He was smart and went to a tier one computer science school. I wonder could it be that he is so smart that he switched fields
What about the pollution they gotta inhale everyday while being on the 6 lane interstate with back to back traffic? And why can’t a software engineer be healthy…? I mean I see a bunch of unhealthy engineers, but that’s not cause they think too hard. It’s cause they are fkn lazy and just don’t work out
ok that might be true... in California it is not bad... the fuel and car has special things to make the pollution less. In LA it is worse, but in the Bay Area, I don't hear people say the pollution from traffic is bad. Plus in California, it doesn't rain most of the year. At least when I see a UPS driver come out of the truck, I see a much happier guy than most of my coworkers
> the fuel and car has special things to make the pollution less. Look at the data then. Go ahead and check the AQI index, look at SoCal and don’t forget that UPS drivers are exposed for 10 hours daily, 5-6 days a week. Look at studies and the impact of constant pollution on the body. You can “hear” people saying stuff but that’s not how it works. Only data matters, people can be wrong too.
It's not 170 pay + benefits. It's like 100 + 70k benefit package, which most of us SWEs just kinda take for granted as free
Is the corollary to your logic that UPS drivers are dumb?
not dumb. They just think about different things. Not like software engineers who can do critical thinking like 3 to 5 hours per day
In which world does spleen deliver the nutrients and thinking hurts the spleen? Kind of makes sense if your brain is in your spleen.
it goes with: the less a person knows, the more confident he is
That doesn't answer my question though.
What thinking work do you do ? I bet you mostly write and maintain crud apps. High school math teachers probably think more than you.
Intel, you probably don't know much about software engineering. Think about why is the form rendered wrong? They sent us 200k of data to render this form, but what do all those fields mean? I asked for the specs but that was lost or the manager could get the other team to find and give to us. Now I have to dig deep into it and find out why and fix it. It is like saying Intel hardware engineers do not have to use their brains... oh wait, by the way Intel is losing to AMD and tsmc, maybe...
There you go.. prime drivers next https://teamster.org/2023/09/teamsters-support-amazon-workers-in-demanding-real-wage-increases/
lol, it’ll be fun to see if prime drivers suddenly start making more than SWE1s at Amazon. We all know how internal mobility might turn out then 😂
With the way in which post millennials hate driving with a passion, I wouldn't be surprised. Big rig operator owners make as much or more than Amazon L5s SDEs nowadays. And our stupid politicians make sure it stays that way https://wpde.com/news/nation-world/biden-admin-overturns-trump-era-rule-allowing-fossil-fuel-transport-by-train-us-department-of-transportation-liquified-natural-gas-lng-senator-ted-cruz
Also they have a full workout program, the whole week included and uniform
