Data scientist Capital Group : 250k, hybrid 3 days in office, Irvine, CA. Series D startup: 190k remote The series D startup recently had the whole executives laid off. She asked me not to mention the name. How is wlb, promotion, tech stack and quality of work in CG? Any comment is appreciate.
I don't have an opinion but you should know blind tends to be anti startup and always recommends the secure bug company. It's an Indian culture thing
What was the reason for the exec layoffs?
Saving cost and not aligning their visions with owners
Capital Group would be a weird place to be a data scientist. What would they have you doing? I'm guessing this is not on the investment management side since they're a pretty old-school fundamentals shop. So this is probably a sales/marketing effort? Helping them gather assets? Ppl on the investment side tend to stay at capital group a long time, so I imagine it is pretty decent wlb, but I doubt it is very tech-oriented.
It is investment management side. They told her it is applied and data scientist. How do people stay long, given it is return to office and they look strict about. I may be wrong though.
Historically it pays well and has good wlb. If it is on the investment side, it'd usually have a quant title, not DS. But, capital group is really old school - not much of a quant shop. There are better places to do portfolio construction, risk, and build alpha signals if she wants to be in finance.
Which startup?
Cannot mention it, if you DM me, I will tell you the name.
