Is there a difference with the work they do vs full time?
yes there is. Core product / Algo team usually don’t allow contractor hires.
Want to evaluate how fair the offer is. Equity look a little low Can negotiation be done on base/stocks as no sign on/joining bonus?
Base is pretty good for ic2. You can try to negotiate equity but that seems standard for your level and doubtful they will budge.
What should be good range to negotiate for equity?

I would think yes definitely those skills would be desirable since many people working at SN are just building apps on top of the platform.
