My fiance works at slack. With rumours around salesforce layoff she is worried about how it works with severance. I think companies allow people to be on payroll for some time and then pay them lump sum money as severence. What happens if one finds a job before the payroll end period? Do they still payout the severence. Asking as she does not want to join a 80k job just in pressure of getting a job asap. #salesforce #tableau #mulesoft #slack #twitter #meta #amazon #netflix
She remains on payroll to collect the rest and starts a job somewhere else.
Atleast at Rivian they rolled up the left over severance into lump sum if found job before payroll end date
You should be able to contact HR and they can move up your official termination date to before you start at the new job. You can of course just not tell your old company and collect two paychecks for the overlapping time, but remember you are still bound by your old company's terms and if they prohibit dual employment, they can fire you with cause and then you lose out on severance.
Didn’t some articles say they only got two months of severance. Don’t bank on that lol

Severance is paid so that departing employees don't sue the company. The company doesn't care if their ex-employees find a new job or remain unemployed.
Yes, to comply with the WARN act by US labour department.
This also means you don’t leave the current company before the severance date; otherwise no severance 💰
